INFECTION CONTROL POLICY
A standard infection control policy is followed in St. Gregorios Dental College for the safety of patients, students, and staff who are engaged in healthcare work.
Objectives
- To implement a standard protocol to minimize the risk of infection in patients and healthcare professionals.
- To monitor the hygienic conditions of the college and routes of infection.
- To conduct training for staff and students on infection control measures.
- To prepare guidelines for safety practices.
- To guide all types of clinical waste management mechanisms.
Protocol for Infection Control Mechanism
- In all clinical departments, a separate sterilization area is maintained with an autoclave and washing area.
- All equipment that needs to be sterilized after use should be transported to the sterilization area in a labeled pouch.
- The sterilization procedure should be followed as described in the instrument manual.
- Equipment after sterilization should be kept in a clean area.
- Waste disposal protocols should be strictly followed.
- Hepatitis B vaccination will be arranged for all students and staff.
- Scrubs and aprons should be kept clean and changed regularly.
- New gloves should be used for each patient, and hands should be washed properly with soap after glove use.
- Protective masks or face shields should be worn while treating patients.
- Personnel compliance will be assessed, and infection control programs will be organized to reduce the risk of infection.
- All types of biomedical waste should be segregated and placed in different color-coded bins as per the instructions of IMAGE.
- A routine fumigation process should be conducted in every department.
