ORAL MEDICINE AND RADIOLOGY



After the completion of the undergraduate training programme in the department of Oral Medicine and Radiology, the graduate should:

Be able to formulate a complete case history based on detailed history taking, examination, clinical diagnosis and ability to
order investigations, seek expert consultations to come to a final diagnosis and chart out a proper treatment plan for
patients with oral lesions and other conditions

Be able to differentiate the normal variations and oral mucosal lesions and diagnose pre-cancerous and cancerous lesions
of the oral cavity it's medical management and further referral to the concerned specialty for their management.

Be able to identify the common dental problems like Dental Caries and Periodontal Disease with sequelae.

Be able to identify, diagnose and prescribe a management protocol for complex problems like TMJ and Orofacial pain.

Have an adequate knowledge about common laboratory investigations and interpretation of their results.

Have adequate knowledge about management of medically compromised patients, medical complications that can arise
while treating systemically compromised patients and take prior precautions/ consent from the concerned medical specialist.

Have adequate knowledge about radiation health hazards, radiation safety and protection along with developing a
competency to take intra-oral and extra oral radiographs.

Be able to interpret the radiographic findings and its application into forensics, sialography etc along with a knowledge
about advanced imaging modalities like CBCT, MRI etc. And its interpretation for supporting and summarising the diagnosis.
