RESEARCH POLICY



Purpose 

To act as a guide for students and faculty while performing various research activities within the institution.

Scope 

The research policy will uphold ethical principles, including:

  • Prevention of scientific misconduct

Objectives
  • Promote research culture among faculty and students.
  • Ensure research outcomes are published in high-indexed journals or those with a high impact factor.
  • Encourage patenting of research findings.
  • Promote collaborations by encourage partnerships with other institutions.
  • Facilitate research through the mobilization of resources and funding.
  • Maintain ethics and integrity in all research activities.

Introduction

St. Gregorios Dental College is committed to promoting and supporting high-quality research activities that contribute to the advancement of dental education, patient care, and oral health. This policy outlines the guidelines and procedures for conducting research within the college.

Research Ethics
  • All research conducted at St. Gregorios Dental College must adhere to ethical principles and guidelines, including but not limited to those outlined by relevant regulatory bodies and research ethics committees.
  • Researchers are responsible for obtaining necessary approvals, such as ethics clearance, before commencing any research involving human subjects, animal models, or sensitive data.
  • Informed consent must be obtained from participants involved in research studies, ensuring their rights, privacy and confidentiality are protected.


Research Governance
  • The college establishes a Institutional Scientific Committee and Institutional Ethical Committee to oversee and promote research activities, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and policies.
  • The Institutional Scientific Committee and Institutional Ethical Committee is responsible for reviewing research proposals, monitoring ongoing projects, and providing support and guidance to researchers.

Intellectual Property
  • Researchers retain ownership of intellectual property resulting from their research activities, subject to any agreements or contracts they may have with external partners or funding agencies.
  • The college recognizes and respects the intellectual property rights of researchers and encourages the responsible management, protection, and commercialization of research outcomes.

Collaboration and Partnerships
  • St. Gregorios Dental College encourages collaboration and partnerships with other educational institutions, research organizations, and industry stakeholders to foster innovative and impactful research.
  • Collaborative research projects should be guided by clear agreements outlining the roles, responsibilities, and intellectual property rights of each participating entity.
  • Researchers are encouraged to disseminate research findings through publications, conferences, and other appropriate platforms, giving proper credit and acknowledgment to all collaborators and contributors.

Research Integrity
  • Researchers are expected to uphold the highest standards of integrity and transparency in conducting and reporting their research.

  • Any suspected research misconduct or violation of ethical guidelines should be reported to the Research Committee, which will initiate an investigation following established procedures.


Research Facilities and Resources
  • The college provides researchers with access to appropriate research facilities, equipment, and resources necessary to conduct their research.
  • Researchers are responsible for using these resources responsibly, maintaining them in good condition, and adhering to any safety protocols or guidelines.

Research Review and Monitoring
  • The Institutional Scientific Committee and Institutional Ethical Committee may conduct periodic reviews of ongoing research projects to assess their progress, ethical compliance, and alignment with the college's research objectives.
  • Researchers may be required to provide progress reports, including updates on research activities, milestones, and any ethical or regulatory considerations.
  • These Committee may provide feedback and recommendations to researchers to enhance the quality and impact of their research.

Guidelines for Publications Policy from the Institution

Students and faculty are encouraged to publish in high-quality journals. The research and publication are mentored by faculty by adhering to specific rules which includes the following:

  2. Plagiarism
  3. Duplicate publication
  4. Ethics of authorship
  5. Conflict of interest
