Research and development

Overview

Prosthodontics is the speciality branch that deals with the diagnosis, treatment planning, maintenance and rehabilitation of oral tissues and function which includes the replacement of missing teeth and its associated soft and hard tissues by prostheses such as crowns, bridges, maxillofacial prostheses and dentures which may be fixed or removable, supported or retained by implants.

Infrastructure

Department of Prosthodontics and Implantology at St. Gregorios Dental College was established in 2005 and post-graduation training programme was started in the year 2017. Spread over 10000 square feet, our department has separate clinical areas for PG and UG students with sufficient number of dental chairs and a fully equipped preclinical laboratory, casting/ceramic lab and an implant clinic with all facilities. The department also fulfils all the requirements of infection control. It has a very well designed seminar hall and a well organized department library for the academic purpose of students.

Academics

The department has been conducting a comprehensive training program in dental prosthetics for undergraduates and post graduate students. Lectures, seminars and clinical teaching are being carried out strictly adhering to the curriculum of Kerala university of Health Sciences and Dental Council of India norms. The department trains 200 undergraduates including interns and 9 postgraduate students in an academic year. The enhancement of diagnostic and treatment skills of students and staff is improved by various CDE programmes, hands-on workshops and special case presentations.

Treatment

The department of Prosthodontics provides a full range of prosthodontic services and  treatments including crowns, bridges, veneers, inlays, complete and partial denture prosthesis, dental implants, treatment of temporomandibular joint disorders, full mouth rehabilitation, treatment of snoring and sleep disorders, management of traumatic injuries to oral structures, oral cancer reconstruction and continuing care, smile designing, geriatric care and nutritional counselling.
