Ethics In Dental Practice

  • Date of Event: 04-05-2021
  • Event Venue: College Auditorium

On 04.05.2021 a CDE program called Ethics in Dental Practice was carried out in St. Gregorios Dental College. The purpose of the program was to tackle ethical issues and difficulties that dental professionals undergo day after day while practicing as perceived by new postgraduate student body. Towards this goal the seminar sought to create dialogue between practitioners on ethics using case scenarios for debate across borders; hence would also learn from one another on best practices. Dr. Binnoy Kurian is a famous orthodontist from Kochi and head of the Department of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics. He spoke about how morals can be applied in dental work using the four-patient autonomy, beneficence, non-maleficence, and justice. Additionally, recommendations on how to solve some of those issues i.e., informed consent were given at this event which was full of deep insights into complex problems concerning ethics within dentistry according to him. He talked in-depth about how breaking an ethic rule as a dentist would lead to charges being pressed against you through analysis of actual example scenarios in addition to applicable laws that show what embodying a lack of ethics doe to businesspersons ('professionals' would be better) in practice. This program also had parts at which pupils would use fictional cases for group discussions in which they could try to pretend being dentists, doing peer-to-peer mentorship while coming up with ways of handling such ethical dilemmas. Individuals left the seminar equipped with valuable insights and tools to handle ethical dilemmas and maintain professionalism.
