Ethics In Dental Practice

  • Date of Event: 21-10-2019
  • Event Venue: College Auditorium

The goal of the CDE programme, Ethics in Dental Practice, which took place at St. Gregorios Dental College on October 21, 2019, was to discuss with faculty members, undergraduates and new postgraduate students the ethical issues and difficulties that dental professionals confront in their day-to-day work. The goal of the seminar was to give dentists a forum to talk about moral conundrums, exchange best practices, and deepen their grasp of moral guidelines in dentistry. The esteemed Dr. Binnoy Kurian, a renowned orthodontist from Kochi who also serves as the Head of the Department of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics, gave a thought-provoking talk on the foundational ethics of dentistry, highlighting the significance of beneficence, non-maleficence, justice, and patient autonomy. He offered helpful advice on how to handle moral conundrums that arise frequently in dentistry practice, like informed consent, patient confidentiality, and conflicts of interest. He talked about the legal ramifications of ethical transgressions in dentistry, using case studies and pertinent laws to show the negative effects of misbehaviour on the profession. In order to build ethical decision-making abilities, the programme included interactive sessions where students may examine case studies, take part in role-playing activities, and work with peers. After attending the seminar, attendees have gained important knowledge and resources to help them deal with moral dilemmas and maintain the highest standards of professionalism in their work.
